Elbow, Wrist and Hand Injury & Pain
The human upper limb is a remarkable piece of engineering! The shoulder complex allows enormous freedom of movement, (almost a full 360 degrees!!) for us to perform all kinds of activities, like reaching overhead, throwing, climbing and so on. The hinge joint at the elbow allows us to perform the one of our most basic functions, ie. getting hand to mouth! And the many small bones and muscles of the wrist and hand allow us to manipulate tools and object in a way unique to us as humans.
Pain or injury in the upper limb can therefore be quite debilitating. The problem may be occurring for a variety of reasons. Maybe you had a fall and broke or fractured one of the bones in your arm, or perhaps the problem has come on more gradually, associated with overuse or an unusual activity or posture. An often overlooked contributor to chronic pain in the upper limb is the role of the neck joints, and the nerves that come from the neck area to supply the arm.
At DMA our Physiotherapists will perform a thorough assessment of your arm problem, including looking at possible causes of a chronic issue that may have previously been overlooked. Using our DMA Clinical Pilates methodology combined with traditional physiotherapy techniques like mobilization and massage, we will work together with you to help get to the cause of your problem and get you back on track.
If specialist Hand Therapy beyond our area of expertise is required, we will be able to refer you on to an experienced Hand Therapist to treat your problem.
